'Dogs Bounce Back With 85-64 Win Behind Harrison's 21

Box Score

BY MIKE MONTFORT

Freshman Jaylen Harrison scored 21 points and led four double-figure scorers Monday as Navarro snapped a two-game losing streak with an 85-64 Region XIV victory over the Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks.

Harrison sank 8-of-11 shots from the floor, including 4-of-4 three-pointers to lift coach Grant McMillan's Bulldogs into fourth place by percetnage points over idle Blinn and Paris.  Harrison, now averaging almost 13 points, has scored in double digits nine times.  On four occasions, the 5-foot-11 guard has produced 20-plus scoring -- three times in his last five games.

Jules Moor added 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Bulldogs improved to 7-5

Navarro built a 39-32 halftime lead.  The Seahawks pulled within with five (41-36) four minutes into the second half, but Navarro sprinted on 12-point run during a two-and-a-half minute stretch and never looked back.  The Bulldogs widened their 53-36 lead to 24 by the 9:44 mark (58-44) and coasted.

Sophomore Akol Mawein totaled 14 points from 5-of-5 shooting, with five rebounds, an assist, steal and a blocked shot  Edward Manuel added 10 points and three rebounds in the effort.

Coach Lance Madison's Seahawks got a team-high 14 points from freshman Joe Lucien and Ty Archibald.  Kanntrell Burney, one of Region XIV's top scorers, was limited to 10 Monday.  Lucien was coming off a 34-point, 11-rebound performance Saturday in Lamar State's 77-74 loss to Panola at the Carl Parker Center.

Navarro welcomes the Tyler Apaches for a 7 pm Wednesday Region XIV contest at The Wolens Center.  Coach Mike Marquis' Apaches (4-7) haven't won since February 10 when they beat Blinn 66-65 at Wagstaff Gym.  TJC, an early-season 54-49 winner over the Bulldogs, has lost five straight league contests.
