Navarro set a program record for goals scored in a season opener Sunday as it steamrolled Paris, 11-0, at The Roark Montgomery Soccer Complex.

 

Top returning Region XIV goal scorer Rafiatu Alhassan had two goals and two assists, while freshman Daniela Pena added two goals and an assist.

 

Nine Bulldogs scored goals and 11 issued assists during the romp.  Nathalie Rojas, Isabella Benavidez, Jada Brown, Marta Forne, Melissa Olivares, Kaede Yamaguchi and Cristina Obama all netted goals. 

 

The Bulldogs, with preseason ranks of No. 9 in the NJCAA and No. 12 in the United States Coaches Polls, cruised to seven first-half goals against new coach Fernando Arellano's Dragons. Navarro, with its first season-opening win since 2018, improved to 17-3 in first-game outcomes with 13 shutouts over the last 20 years.

 

Sunday's effort surpassed the 2004 team's 10-0 season-opening win over Bossier Parish Community College.
