Head Basketball Coach Grant McMillan secured his 100th Navarro victory Wednesday as the Bulldogs defeated Kilgore, 75-70, at Masters Gymnasium.
McMillan, now 100-72 in his sixth NC season, is seven wins shy of 200 during a 10-year career that includes four at Panola.
Sophomore guard Jalen Griffith totaled 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals as Navarro completed a regular-season sweep of Kilgore and climbed into a sixth-place tie with the Tyler Apaches. TJC fell 71-70 in overtime to 17th-ranked Angelina in Lufkin on Chris Carpenter's three-pointer with :02 left.
Griffith, a near 90-percent free-throw shooter, reached his season scoring average and iced NC's win by sinking a pair at the foul line with :03 remaining. Navarro hit 19-of-26 from the line; the eight-member KC squad missed 12 of 30 attempts.
Jayden Pretty added 12 points – eight in the second half of a game that was tied five times and featured seven lead changes.
Trailing 22-12, the Dawgs went on a 19-2 inside the first half's final seven minutes, turned momentum and held a 31-29 lead at the break.
Navarro (14-12 / 8-10) returns home Saturday for a 4 PM conference game against Lee (14-11 / 11-7).
