Dylan Butler enters his second season as Head Coach of the Navarro College Bulldog Volleyball program following a standout debut campaign in 2024. In just his first year at the helm, Butler continued the Bulldog volleyball standard, leading them to a 21-13 overall record and an impressive 11-3 mark in highly competitive Region XIV play. Despite a roster dominated by freshmen, Butler's leadership and strategic acumen guided the Bulldogs to a second-place conference finish and a runner-up result in the Region XIV Tournament—ultimately earning the program its second consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearance via an at-large bid, where the Bulldogs finished tied for 13
th in the country.
Under Butler’s guidance, the 2024 squad boasted an array of individual and academic accolades:
- 2 Region XIV All-Tournament Team Selections
- 4 First Team All-Conference Selections
- 1 Second Team All-Conference Selection
- 1 Honorable Mention All-Conference Selection
- Region XIV Libero of the Year & Newcomer of the Year
- 10 Region XIV All-Academic Selections
- 8 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, including three on the First Team
Before arriving at Navarro, Butler served as the head coach at Hill College from 2021–2024, where he elevated the Rebels into one of the most competitive programs in the NTJCAC.
In the 2023–2024 season, Butler led a youthful Hill College team to a 16-19 finish, including a 9-5 record in conference. The team showed remarkable growth throughout the season, regularly challenging nationally ranked opponents. He mentored
two First Team and two Second Team All-Conference selections, along with a
Region V All-Tournament Team honoree.
In 2022–2023, Hill compiled a 20-16 record and went 10-4 in conference play, winning the
Region V North Tournament Championship for the 11th straight year. Butler coached the
Region V North Player of the Year, multiple All-Conference honorees, and helped place athletes among the
Top 5 in Hill College career statistical history.
In 2021–2022, Butler engineered a remarkable turnaround, guiding the Rebels to an 11-15 finish with a perfect 9-0 second half in conference. The team captured the
Region V North Conference Tournament Championship, earned a berth to the
NJCAA National Tournament, and finished ranked in the
Top 16 nationally. For his efforts, Butler was named
Southwest District A Coach of the Year. That team produced three First Team All-Conference players and the Region’s Newcomer and Tournament MVP.
Before becoming head coach, Butler spent two years as Hill College's assistant coach. His impact was immediate:
- In 2020–2021, the Rebels went 14-6, captured both the Region V North Regular Season and Tournament titles, and earned a Top 20 national ranking.
- In 2019–2020, the team finished 20-10 and reached the NJCAA National Tournament, ending the season as one of the Top 16 teams in the country.
He was instrumental in developing two Second Team NJCAA All-American outside hitters and numerous All-Conference standouts.
Butler's collegiate coaching journey began as a volunteer assistant at the University of Dallas in 2018–2019, helping guide the Crusaders to their best season in five years (20-15) and a fourth-place finish in the SCAC Championship Tournament. He contributed to the training of
SCAC All-Conference and All-America selections.
Earlier in his career, he served as an undergraduate assistant at two top NCAA Division II programs:
- University of Central Oklahoma (2015–2016), where UCO posted back-to-back 30+ win seasons (31-5 and 30-4)
- University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (2011), helping the Lions to a 27-8 campaign
As a player, Butler competed at Park University (Kansas City, MO), where he was a member of the 2014
NAIA National Invitational Championship team.
Originally from Hawaii, Butler grew up immersed in volleyball culture, playing indoor, grass, and beach formats. He is married to
Pamela Butler, who serves as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. A native of Brazil, a former Coffeyville Community College standout, and single season kill record holder. Pamela is also a Park University alumna. Together, they have a daughter,
Isabella.
