'Dogs Return To League Play Wednesday Against NTCC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Navarro Softball is scheduled to spring back into Region XIV East Zone competition Wednesday when the Northeast Texas Eagles come to Jesse and Lou Cummings Field for a 1 pm doubleheader.

The phrase "is scheduled' fits, since weather forecasts indicate the 90 percent likelihood Tuesday of overnight showers and thunderstsorms that could alter the Bulldogs' plan.

The Eagles (8-11/0-4), currently have a four-game losing streak as they approach the midpoint of a schedule grind.  They've lost league doubleheaders at Paris and against TVCC at Mount Pleasant.  Next for NTCC are zone doubleheaders at Corsicana against Navarro, and Saturday, at Bossier, La., against the 18th-ranked Lady Cavaliers.

Navarro ventured into the non-conference realm Monday and gained a split with the Hill Lady Rebels.

GAME 1: Navarro 1, Hill 0

The Bulldogs lone run crossed when Kaitlynn Woodlee's bases-loaded, fielder's choice grounder enabled courtesy runner Janay Reynolds to score from third. Reynolds ran for Tatum Briggs, who drew a one-out walk from Hill starter Spring. Harley Davis then was hit by a pitch and Callie Waller walked.

Navarro tied it in the third as London Reue drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded. Singles by Maddie Wright and Jenna Rude and a Tatum Briggs walk set the stage.
Hill surged to a 5-1 lead in the fifth and touched Swacker for three extra-base hits. Right fielder Ellena Munoz doubled and scored after Hannah Spring bunted and reached on an error. Shortstop Shelby Pelton tripled home Spring, and catcher Bridgette Montes slugged a home run to leftfield.
Spring doubled to start Hill's seventh and came around to score on Pelton's groundout.
