ATHENS -- Trinity Valley erased a six-point deficit inside the final six minutes of regulation and then scored 13 unanswered points in overtime to defeat the Navarro Bulldogs, 87-74 Saturday.
Coach Mark Leslie's league-leading, 17th-ranked Cardinals won their 10th consecutive game and completed a Region XIV regular-season sweep of Navarro. Coach Grant McMillan's Bulldogs dropped their second game this week to a ranked opponent and remained in fifth place battling Blinn and Paris for post-season seeding position.
The Cardinals got double-doubles from two players, and narrowly missed a triple-double from a third. Anderson Mirambeaux's 13-point, 11-rebound effort keeyed Saturday's comeback, with a 14/10 performance from Tuoungthach Gathek. Despite being saddled with foul problems throughout, Dashawn Davis finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds and nine assists.
During the extra period, Mirambeaux and Gathek helped seal off the inside and didn't allow NC any second-opportunity baskets. The Cardinals ended the game with a 54-38 rebounding edge (36-29 on the defensive end).
Trevon Fuller's 21 points buoyed the Cardinals during the first 24 minutes.
Navarro held a 44-41 halftime lead.
Freshman Jaylen Harrison's personal-season high 24 points paced four in double-figure scoring for the Bulldogs. Jules Moor (14) and Edward Manuel (12) provided big play and energy off the bench, while starter Sabry Philip contributed 10 points. Sophomore guard Drue Drinnon approached a triple-double with nine points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Harrison's only three of the game, occurring inside the final 0:20 of regulation, reclaimed the lead for Navarro (74-72), but a Mirambeaux putback at 0:12.9 reginaed a tie and forced overtime.
The Bulldogs (6-50 host Lamar State-Port Arthur (3-8) at 2 pm Monday in a game rescheduled from March 1.
