CORSICANA, TX- Navarro College Volleyball (3-1) fought hard in a thrilling five set match against nationally ranked conference opponent (#14) Panola College(6-2) before taking the match (25-21, 16-25, 21-25, 25-21,19-17).
Navarro College played another exciting home match in front a sea of red with Navarro College Band and Navarro College Cheer creating a loud environemnt while NC Volleyball took on Panola College(#14). The Dawgs started hot taking the first set 25-21, before being stopped by Panola on the second set 16-25. The fight was on with Panola taking the next set 21-25 to put the Dawgs down 2-1. NC came back composed to take back sets 4 (25-21) and set 5 (19-17). Outsides,
Lauren Tishkoff and
Tjasa Malnar, led the Dawgs in kills with 19 and 18 apiece respectfully.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
NC started the set up 8-5 with kills from outsides Lauren Tishkoff and Tjasa Malnar. The gap became wider with Navarro leading 12-7. An error by the Dawgs caused a timeout to be called. The dawgs came out strong again and finished the set 25-21 with back to back aces by freshman libero, Alessia Sonzini.
Second Set
Set number two started out 2-2 with each team vying for a lead. Panola went on a 5-0 run forcing a timeout by Navarro. Sophomore middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, came out with an ace to make the score 4-9. Panola ran ahead before a kill by freshman outside, MAria Eduarda Dudao kept the score at 14-21. Panola would go on to take the set 25-16.
Third Set
Another 2-2 start would create more fight between Navarro and Panola. Navarro created a hole for themselves letting go of four points on their own errors. They would close the gap to 6-9 with a kill. The longest rally would come in the third set before Navarro won the point on Panolas hitting error. NC missed a serve to make the score 12-16 and taking a timeout to regroup. The gap was made narrower by middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska's kill to make the score 17-20. Alessia Sonzini would bring the score to its closest point yet at 20-22 with an ace. Panola closed out the set with a block against the Dawgs.
Fourth Set
The Dawgs went down to start 2-4 before recovering and making a 4-0 run taking the lead at 12-10. An NC missed serve would bring the Fillies back in at 15-13 and giving the Dawgs a moment in a timeout. At 17-16, outside Lauren Tishkoff would get a kill to put NC on a 3-0 run. Panola called a timeout at 20-17. Frehsman outside, Maria Eduarda Dudao, would get a kill to keep the Dawgs in the fight.
Fifth Set
The Dawg fight saw a lot of play back and fourth with NC getting their largest lead at 7-3. An NC missed serve would force a timeout to regroup again. Panola came out to fight with just being behind one point at 8-7. At 11-9, a kill by freshman middle blocker, Nia Mack, would help the Dawgs inch closer to the finish line. A couple NC errors brought the Fillies back in at 12-12. The fight was on both sides of the net before Navarro went on a 3-0 run to win 19-17.
UP NEXT
The Dawgs (8-5) will take on non-conference opponent Dallas College-Cedar Valley (1-13) at home in the SEC at 11 AM CST.
