Navarro Basketball tries to convert its Christmas wish list into reality Saturday when it concludes its fall semester schedule against the Lee Navigators in Baytown.
Coach Grant McMillan's Bulldogs (8-3 / 2-1) bid for a third consecutive win and a third in four Region XIV games that will keep the 'Dawgs assured of no less than second place at the mid-semester break.
The young Bulldogs fought through their first three conference games and emerged 2-1 in contests that were decided by a combined 11 points. The three two-possession games included successful home court defenses against 10-1 Bossier Parish (80-78) and a double-overtime thriller Wednesday against Kilgore (73-69).
Off the bench, freshman Elijah Mitchell sank a personal season-high 24 points and Jayden Pretty contributed nine points, a team-high 13 rebounds and three assists Wednesday. Sophomore guard Jalen Griffith hit double-figure scoring for the 11th straight game with 11 points.
NC, averaging 86 points with a balanced scoring lineup, shoots 49,7 percent from the floor, 35 percent beyond the arc and 69.7 from the foul line.
At Beeville Wednesday, coach Nicholas Wade's Lee Navigators (4-5 / 1-2) claimed their first league win downing Coastal Bend, 65-53. Averaging 61 points, Lee's struggled with losses in three of its last five games. The Navigators' all-new cast has a suspect percentage slash line of 38 from the floor, 28 from three-point range, and 57 from the foul line.
