Gerth, Mangus Taken as MLB Draft Concludes

Two right-handed pitchers from Navarro's regional finalist baseball team were selected Tuesday on Day 3 of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Sam Gerth, a Dallas Baptist University commitment, was taken in the 14th round with the 408th selection overall by the Colorado Rockies.

Conference Pitcher of the Year, Thomas Mangus was picked in the 18th round with the 542nd overall selection by the Chicago Cubs.

Gerth (4-4) struck out 68 in 55.2 innings over 13 appearances last spring for coach Whoa Dill's Bulldogs.

Mangus (5-4, 3.01), a University of Oklahoma commitment,  struck out 81 batters in 80.2 innings over 17 appearances.

Gerth and Mangus are the first bulldogs selected in an MLB Draft since 2021 when the Houston Astros spent a sixth-round pick on Spencer Arrighetti,  It's the first time multiple NC players were selected in an NLB Draft since 2019 when catcher Luis Trevino (Rays) and shortstop Cash Rugely (Cardinals) were taken in the 40th and final round.

Since 1967, a total of 79 Navarro baseball players have been taken in the MLB Draft.
