GAME:  Kilgore at Navarro

KICKOFF:  7 p.m. CDT Saturday, September 21

VENUE: Tiger Field at CNB&T Stadium, Corsicana

GAME DAY WEATHER:  Afternoon high temperatures of 95 degrees will drop near 90 by kickoff.  Clear skies with south winds 7-17 mph Purchase tic, 50 percent humidity and a 64 dewpoint are expected.

BULLDOG HALL OF FAME WEEKEND:  Membership in the Bulldog Hall Of Fame grows Saturday to 41 as seven members of the Class of 2024 are inducted during morning ceremonies at The Cook Educatrion Center, and recognized during Saturday night;s game.  Inductees are DeAnna Williams-King (softball), Hernandez James 'Hunkie' Cooper and D.J. Hayden (football), DeAndre Brown (basketball), Jess Todd (baseball), Carolina Barbosa (volleyball), and Cassias Phillips (community support),

HISTORY:  Combined, the storied programs have a .628 winning percentage, with 1,043 victories from 1,662 games played.  All-time, both programs have played 800 games and won 500. (Kilgotr, 543-305-14 and Navarro 500-290-10).  They've each won two NJCAA national championships (Kilgore, in 1966 and 1978, and Navarro, in 1989 and 2010).  They've each played in 22 bowl games. (Kilgore, 11-10-1 and Navarro 13-8-1)   Just within the 28-year Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC( configuration, either Navarro or Kilgore has played in the league's championship game 20 times (Navarro 13, Kilgore 7)

SERIES HISTORY:  Meeting No. 95 Saturday finds Navarro leading the series  46-44-4 with wins in three of the last four games.  Navarro's won the last three regular season games, including two at Kilgore.  The Rangers won the 2023 SWJCFC Championshp Game 48-39 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

COACHES:  Kilgore's Willie Gooden and Navarro's Ryan Taylor are the 16th head football coaches at their respective schools.  Gooden, a native of Hempstead, Tx., is in his sixth season as Kilgore's head coach and 18th year on the Rangers' staff -- with a progression from player to graduate assistant, offensive line, defensive line and defensive coordinator.   Gooden's head coaching record is 40-11…. Ryan Taylor is 25-14 overall in five SWJCFC seasons and 14-9 in his third year at Navarro. Taylor, a former offensive lineman at Denison High School, Tyler Junior College and UCLA, guided Cisco to an unbeaten SWJCFC Championship in Spring, 2021.

RECORDS AND RANKINGS:  Kilgore (2-0, 1-0) is ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA's fourth weekly Division I Football Poll.  Unbeaten after its first two games for the first time since 2018,Navarro (2-0, 1-0) is ranked sixth.  Rated 13th in the preseason poll, the Bulldogs have climbed seven spots in three weeks.

NAVARRO LAST WEEK: While playing its 800th hame since program inception in 1946, Navarro secured its 500th all-time victory with a 48-21 decision over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.   Using a similar script from the 34-20 opening win at Garden City, the Bulldogs spotted NEO a rushing touchdown, and used a momentum-crushing burst of 41 unanswered points to bury the Norsemen.  Within the final 10:52 of the first half, Navarro tallied 27, thanks to Tim Burns' 85-yard kickoff return Braylon Finney;s 110yard touchdown reception and a defense that forced three turnovers – interceptions by J.P. Paterson and Mumu Bin-Wahdan, plus Aron Bell's 23-yard scoop-and-score.

KILGORE LAST WEEK: Sophomore quarterback Tyler Webb, a University of Idaho transfer from Waco, ;ed Kilgore to 367 yards offense in its 40-30 home conference win over New Mexico Military Institute. Webb completed 10-of-20 for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Kilgore pulled away  from a 23-23 tie midway in of the third period.  Webb and leading receiver Melvin Polk (4-87-1) connected on a 53-yard scoring play.  Kilgore ran 37 times among its 57 offensive plays as Gary Maddox drove for 94 yards on 15 tries and Luke McMullen added 88 yards on 10 totes.

TEAM NUMBERS:  Kilgore averages 344 yards and  33.5 points.  The Rangers, with a 52-48 percentage breakdown (180 yards passing and 164 rushing).  KC's defense yields 219 yards – 44 rushing and 175 passing….Navarro averages 331.5 yards and 41.5 points.  The Bulldogs thrown for 198 yards and rushing 134 on the ground.  NC's defense surrenders 348 yards – 226 on the ground and 122 through the air.

EXTRA POINTS:  The Bulldogs; 41-point scoring average ranks sixth nationally…..Linebacker Aubrey Smith assumed team tackle leadership with 20, following a 13-stop game against NEO…..Navarro's defense has three interceptions in its first two games…..Bulldog special teams average 29 yards on kickoffs amd 16.7 yards on punts – both top-10 figures…..
