Box Score Navarro Baseball, coming off a 9-8 win Wednesday over Northeast Texas, will host the Bossier Parish Cavaliers for a three-game, Region XIV weekend series beginning Friday.
The Bulldogs (8-4/3-1) host BPCC for a single, nine-inning game at 2 pm Friday, and follow up with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Perry D. Graham Field. BPCC (5-6/2-2) currently sits in a third-place tie with Paris in the East Zone standings.
In its rescheduled game Wednesday with NTCC at Bullard, Tx., Navarro's two-way players made the difference. Righthander Logan Letney came in from rightfield to earn his first save for winning pitcher Nick Oslovar as the Bulldogs escaped with a one-run win. Starting pitcher Chad Ricker -- usually a first baseman -- threw five innings of two-hit ball and struck out six during a 64-pitch outing, and he contributed to his own cause with three RBI from a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
NTCC rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the bottom of the sixth by scoring five, two-out runs off three Bulldog relievers. Four walks, two singles and a three-run double by pinch hitter Jake Chapman keyed the big comeback.
NC struck for two eighth-inning runs. One-out walks by Zac Vooletich and Alex Vergara set up the rally. Letney reached on second baseman Luke McBride's error, enabling Vooletich to score the go-ahead run. During Cal Stark's at-bat, a passed ball on a 1-1 pitch allowed Vergara to score an insurance run.
Letney became Navarro's fifth pitcher of the day during the bottom of the eighth, inheriting runners at second and first with one out. The righthander threw five pitches to retire NTCC's 8-9 hitters, strand the runners and end the inning.
Navarro turned a third double play of the day to end the game.
