On To The Super Regional With San Jacinto

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

By MIKE MONTFORT

TYLER -- It was as easy as 1-2-3 for zone champion Navarro.  The Bulldogs faced the minimum.

Navarro  (28-11) beat Blinn and run-ruled Bossier Parish twice to win the North Regional and advance to Region XIV's best-of-three Super Regional May 14-16.

Navarro, riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak and nine of its last 10, will play South Regional winner San Jacinto (46-12), which dispatched of Panola and Paris in run-rule decisions at Pasadena over the weekend.

Winner of next weekend's Super Regional will advance to the Alpine Bank NJCAA Division I JUCO World Series at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Co., May 29-June 5.

Sunday:  Navarro 8, Bossier Parish 0 (7 Innings)

In Sunday's clincher, Chad Ricker pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. Ricker, routinely a first baseman this season, had four previous spot-starts among his 21.1 innings on the mound this season. The righthander (4-2) now has won his last three appearances and four of his last five. Ricker's replacement at first base today, Josh Dyer, hit his first career home run -- a three-run, opposite-field shot.
Back-to-back doubles by Tallon Heine and Cash Rugely pushed across the tournament-ending, championship-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs own run-rule victories in all five meetings this season with Bossier Parish.

Saturday:  Navarro 12, Bossier Parish 2 (6 innings)

Zac Vooletich homered and drove in three runs for NC, while Rugely and Ethan Ruiz each doubled and knocked in two runs apiece.

Righthander Jake Combs (7-0) cruised to the victory, yielding six hits and one walk while striking out six.

Friday:  Navarro 4, Blinn 1

Heine's two-run single and Vooletich's RBI-double helped to power Navarro to its opening win over the Buccaneers.

Winning pitcher Cooper Randall worked 5.1 innings, while Seth Foster pitched hitless relief over the final 3.2 to earn his first save of the season.
