Bulldogs' Big Bats Take Aim at BPCC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

By MIKE MONTFORT

BOSSIER, La.  -- The Bulldogs confidently will throw the dice here Saturday and hit them.  Big.

Just like they've done all week, they'll probably hit them all over and out of BPCC Ball Field.

Baseballs have inflated to the size of beach balls for the Bulldogs at the start of their seven-game roadtrip.  So far in wins over Grayson at Denison and Northeast Texas at Mount Pleasant, coach Whoa Dill's Dawgs have scored 50 runs -- 16 or more to inflict excessive damage in three straight games. Navarro mashed at a .408 clip (40-for-98) with 10 doubles and six home runs, running circles around the bases and their opponents.

The path of NC's storm toward a 5-0 week crosses the Louisiana border and bears down on Bossier Parish, where a sweep would vault the Bulldogs (16-16-1/10-10) over the Cavaliers (20-11-1/11-9) into fourth place in the zone.  A sweep would nudge NC over the .500 mark for the year and in conference.

BPCC's lost five of its last eight games, including a run-ruled doubleheader Wednesday at Paris (5-4 and 21-13).

NC, led by first baseman Austin Eaton (6-39, .363), leftfielder Weston Valasek (6-17, .400), DH Tyler McShane (2-25, .333), third baseman Ethan Bates (1-25, .327), gave been feasting this week.  Eaton's hit .500 (6 for 12) with a homer and seven runs battted in.  Valasek's 6 for his last 11 with a homer and eight RBI.  McShane's three games to date resulted in a 6-for-10 worksheet with three doubles and six RBI against Northeast. Leadoff hitter Xavien Thompson stroked two homers and scored eight runs in three games.

The beat goes on.

NC and BPCC play Saturday at 1 pm.
