Dallas South Oak Cliff product David Burns led Navarro basketballĀ to a two-year record of 58-9, highlighted by ascension to the NJCAAāsĀ No. 1 ranking in the country. The dynamic guard averaged 17.4 pointsĀ and 5.1 rebounds while leading the Bulldogs to a bi-regional playoffĀ against Western Texas, coached by Nolan Richardson and featuringĀ former NBA star Paul Pressey. Burns became a two-time All-MetroĀ Conference performer at Saint Louis University and earned the 1981Ā Metro Conference Player of the Year. Burns remains the BillikensāĀ scoring average leader (19.4 ppg) and ranks among single-seasonĀ Top 10ās there in points, scoring average, field goal percentage andĀ steals. drafted in the third round of the 1982 NBA draft by the New JerseyĀ Nets, the 49th selection overall.
