John Underwood made a lasting mark on Navarro College basketball and the broader collegiate athletics landscape. As head men's basketball coach from 1972 - 1976, the former Texas A&M player guided the Bulldogs with passion and skill, laying the groundwork for future program success.

Underwood's career advanced to the national stage when he served as an assistant men's basketball coach, and later, Associate Athletic Director at the University of Oklahoma from 1987 - 1997. He went on to influence the Big 12 Conference for more than 15 years as Associate Commissioner for Men's Basketball, Men's Golf, and Game Management (2002 - 2018), earning respect across the country as a trusted leader and advocate for student-athletes.
